Our Story

Meet our Founder

Since 1998, Colombian business administrator Claudia Ibarbo-Gloyne created a group of volunteers with some relatives, friends and schoolmates, to support the social work of the Congregation of nuns Hijas de los Sagrados Corazones, which holds three boarding schools and a community school of vulnerable children of poor and dysfunctional families in Agua de Dios in Cundinamarca, Colombia, a region hit by the scourge of leprosy in the past and which today faces the need to overcome a culture of violence, abandonment and poverty.

This group gave rise to Fundacion Una Mano Amiga DBA Extending a Hand  Foundation, which has just celebrated its first 20 years of assistance to this community.

Our Community

International Presence

In February 2012 Extending A Hand Foundation was officially established in Delray Beach, Florida as a 501 C3 non-profit organization. Since becoming an official foundation, our organization's focus has expanded and allowed for greater development and long-term projects in the hopes of creating a brighter future for the children and seniors of Agua de Dios.
